The dual boiler, PID controlled Alex Duetto IV is a newer mid-upper range semi-automatic model from Izzo. Following in the footsteps of the acclaimed Alex Duetto II, the expectations for this latest version were high from the outset – and we’re happy to report that it does not disappoint. For its price, the Alex Duetto III was arguably the best overall machine in its class ever built – truly a high standard to exceed. In the same regard the Alex IV is able to extract such impressive espressos at home that it makes the notion of going out to drink a sub-par coffee at a cafe or restaurant seem a letdown. The Duetto IV also comes with several great new features; making it one of the best fully loaded machines you buy without moving into much higher price categories with top-of-the-line luxury models built with custom parts.
To start, the Duetto IV is as sturdy as you would expect from an Izzo, and still equipped with the tried and true commercial-grade E-61 group head. It has powerful, insulated stainless steel boilers controlled by a highly accurate PID system. The Duetto lineup is famed for its high level of temperature consistency, needed for pulling perfect shots, and the Duetto IV performs in this regard better than ever. All other components used in the machine are also commercial-grade, including a rotary pump (quieter and sturdier than vibratory pumps), and the Duetto IV's steam boiler makes professional milk foaming as quick and easy as ever.
The real magic to the Duetto IV, however, is not so much just the high-grade hardware it uses (which other brands use also), but the way all of the parts work together seamlessly to make the brewing process totally consistent every time, while still being easy to use and not requiring constant attentiveness. Once you have chosen your preferred brand of espresso and set the grind to the right fineness, you can configure your Duetto IV to brew the perfect shot every single time. Indeed, you can reliably make such flawless shots every day in your own home, that you may hesitate to drink espressos made elsewhere. It’s that good – as many customer reviews can attest to.
We at Caffe Tech recommend the Duetto IV to anyone looking for a machine in the ‘prosumer’ category, and consider it to be one of the very best single-group machines you can buy for the money.
